The current version is 6.0 and has evolved from a small utility to help in the design at Photoshop to a complete software solution, ready to be used with Photoshop CS4, even the 64 bits version for PC.

An application needs a computer, Album DS works on Macintosh and PC and you will need Adobe Photoshop CS or higher ( recommended CS2 or higher). If you have a high end computer it's fine, you may work in full resolution at Photoshop and Album DS but if you have an old one you may also work in scaled mode ( at 72ppi) and later generate the album at high resolution, with your productivity improvement you will very soon get the high end computer. 

Of course if you have a wide monitor, or even better: a dual monitor system you will work more comfortable because album sheets are large and you need space to see all details but a screen with 1024 pixels wide will also be ok.
